Artifact 11: Classroom Management System

Context:
The Classroom Management System was created during the fall of 2000 at Appalachian State in my Curriculum and Instruction class.

Impact:
One section of the Classroom Management System deals with the environment and climate of the classroom.  This section will help teachers to think about the way that they should set up their class in order to have a cooperative, active learning environment that is welcoming to the students.  On example is that if a teacher likes a lot of student participation, s/he would want to set up their room in a way that allows students to move around.  Also, the teachers need to plan out what kind of things they will display on the walls in their class.  Another thing that teachers need to begin thinking about is the routines in their class, such as how the students turn in work and what they are to do when they finish up with their assignment early.

Alignment:
In the Classroom Management System, I demonstrate how I would go about setting up my classroom in a way that is comfortable and fits with my philosophy of teaching.  The layout of my classroom is an example of how I would take into consideration the physical settings in my class in order to have a more collaborative work area for the students (Technology Competency 12.4).  Also, I would be making sure that the way that my class is set up is inviting to the students and encourages interaction and learning (INTASC Standard 5).
