Artifact 2: Media Influence Video
The Media Influence Video on the students at Beech, Bethel, and Mabel Elementary School.  The video shows how the students in second grade are affected by the media they view.

Context:
The video was created in the Integrating Media and Technology into Teaching course at Appalachian State during my pre-service training.  The video was created in a small group to look at how the media was influencing the students that are in our classes.  Each of the three group members, including myself, took a video camera to the school that we are interns in and picked a small group of students to interview.  We wanted to know how the media would influence what students think about gender.

Impact:
The Media Influence Video will be a good way to see how the students view certain topics before discussing these topics in class.  We asked the students to talk to us about scientist in this video and draw a picture.  This is an excellent way to see the stereotypes that the students have of scientist.  Once the stereotype is known to the teacher, it will be easier to know what to talk about with the students, how to break it.  Also, the video will be a good way to talk to the parents and your colleagues to show how the media is an important thing to take into account when teaching the children because of the influence it has over the students.

Alignment:
The Media Influence Video will show the students talking about what they have learned about scientists through different types of media, specifically the television (Technology Competency 12.2).  The student video will be used to show the parents and other school faculty members how the media that the children view influences their ideas about different subjects, especially the topics that are discussed in the school (Technology Competency 12.3). Not only will the video be shown to the parents and faculty members, the video will be shown in the class to allow the students to see how the media affects their view of things in the world (Technology Competency 10.2).
