Artifact 4:  Math Strands
Lesson Plans that involve the different math strands in the North Carolina curriculum.

Context:
The math strands lessons were created in my Teaching Mathematics in Elementary School during my pre-service training at Appalachian State in the fall of 2000.  The lessons were done in a small group of four students.

Impact:
The math strands are based on the NC Standard Course of Study for grades K-6.  The lessons will be used as a way to teach the different strands in the classroom.

Alignment:
In the Math Strands, we used a test that prepares students for the North Carolina  EOG’s that was located on the web as a resource for assessment of what the students learned from the lesson (Technology Competency 10.3). In the math strands, we had to do a reflection of the lesson that we taught to our group.  In the reflection we had to discuss what things went well or did not go so well.  Some of what went wrong was directions that were given.  In this reflection we needed to think about our verbal and even nonverbal communication with the students since that is how they would learn from our lesson (INTASC Standard 6).  Also, in the math strands, we had to come up with both formal and informal ways of assessing what the students would be learning in the lessons to make sure that they were actually understanding the strand (INTASC Standard 8).
