The Classroom management assignment was a beginning step in how to design my future classroom.  After observing in my internship position, I wrote a reflection about management issues that I saw in that classroom.

Context:
The classroom management assignment was done in the curriculum and instruction class at ASU, fall 2001.  After observing my internship classroom at Beech Mountain Elementary, I wrote a paper of what I observed and why this classroom was set up the way it was.  The second part of the assignment was to design my future classroom along with a picture drawing and a verbal description of why I wanted my classroom the way it was drawn.

Impact:
This activity is important because I now have an idea of what I want for my students and in my classroom.  These ideas will continually change as I am introduced to more ideas and different classroom set-ups.  The classroom may change each year to meet the needs of the students.  This particular set up is for lower grades and would have to change if I began teaching upper elementary.

Alignment:
This activity made me start thinking about where I would place things in my classroom including technology areas (Tech Comp 3D).  The computers are placed so the teacher will be able to keep an eye on the students but are not a foreboding area in the classroom.  To keep a peaceful environment and to ensure that there is not one person on the computer all the time, there are computer rules and a sign up sheet beside Technology Town.  Other things in the town that would include rules and a sign up sheet are the tv/vcr and the tape/cd player (Tech Comp 6E).  Although this was done for a college class, it is now part of my portfolio of ideas.  As I become part of a classroom, I will continue to keep this design in my mind, but I will not be afraid to change and modify these ideas.  As classrooms change and students change, I will continue to reflect on the room set up and how it is most effective (INTASC #9).
