The
Media Ethnography project was created after observing the influences
of media at Beech Mountain Elementary school.
Context:
This project was created using power point
and a digital camera. It was done for Integrating Media and Technology
into Teaching class during the fall 2001 semester at ASU.
Impact:
Media is everywhere and after doing this
project, it was very evident how it is even everywhere in the classroom
and schools. This will be useful as a future teacher because of the
influence of media on the individual students. By knowing this, teachers
will be able to better meet their needs and have an deeper understanding
of what the teacher has to "compete with."
Alignment:
The group collected data about the students
and then did a power point presentation for the Integrating Media and Technology
into Teaching class. (Tech Comp
4B) This presentation is now posted on the web for other groups to
look at and analyze. Other teachers can look at this presentation
and use it as an example to complete one on their own about their own students.
Through this project, we talked how many hours of tv effect students and
their performance at school. The questionnaire that was completed
made the students more aware of how they were spending their free time.
It also made me more aware of how to approach parents on dealing with the
amount of T.V. and media the students are exposed to (Tech
Comp 6D). There is now a deeper understanding of how the students
are learning and what they are learning at home from the media. How
media influences students is important to know so that the teacher can
provide learning opportunities that will support this development and influence
(INTASC #2). |
