The children's literature databases is a a collection of children's books that includes a summary, a review, and instructional ideas.

Context:
This artifact was part of a project done during my block experience at ASU, fall 2001.  It is a service that allows access to a huge list of children's books.  Anyone who is interested can go to this website, look for a particular book and find what the books is about and how it can be helpful in a classroom.  Books, summaries, book information, reviews, and instructional ideas are all submitted at this website http://www.ltl.appstate.edu:591/Childlitdb/ and a complete list of the books can be found at this site as well.

Impact:
This artifact is not only useful to college students but also to teachers, and it will be useful to me in the future.  Several instructional ideas are posted with each book, so it is easy to find and use these books.  Not only will teachers benefit from it because of the easy access, but students will too because they will be exposed to great literature.

Alignment:
This website is useful for developing as a teacher.  Especially as a new teacher, it will be nice to have these resources at a click of a button (Tech Comp 5A).  Even though most of the instructional ideas, reviews, and summaries are great, there are a few that are not so great.  It is up to me, the teacher, to sort through the good from the bad and to be able to use the instructional ideas from the good databases.  I also have to remember the needs of my students when choosing which books I would teach from the list (Tech Comp 5B).  Instead of reading each one of these books individually, sorting through good and bad literature, this database will make my job easier by providing the summaries.  Also, I will not have to start from scratch to figure out my lesson plans because the ideas will be posted on the web (Tech Comp 5C).
