Artifact Twelve

This Power Point Presentation was created to help me learn how to use the Microsoft Power Point program.  It also shows the set up of the curriculum throughout the school year.  It can be used to inform parents and colleagues of what is being learned within my own individual classroom.

Rationale for Artifact Twelve:  Powerpoint Presentation

Competency 11.2:  “Use media and technology to present the subject so that it is comprehensible to others.”

Competency 11.4:  “Use technology to facilitate teaching strategies specific to the discipline.”

Competency 12.6:  "Resources available including satellite, cable,
wireless, and ITFS (Instrucional Television Fixed Service)."

CONTEXT

I created this artifact during the Summer of 2001 in Classroom Use of Microcomputers in Grades K-12.  In a cooperative learning group, we used Microsoft Office to create a powerpoint presentation.  Our group decided to put together a presentation based on the sixth grade curriculum.  To create the powerpoint, we had to include specific things.  First, we chose a blank slide, therefore we could add things as we liked.  We added a text box to insert various graphics, including clip art as well as motion clips.  We often used animation by clicking on custom animation and then clicking “effects.”  Here, we could also change the order of texts, sounds, and pictures.  We also used different sounds and music within the presentation.  To insert and sound or music, you must click on “sounds from gallery” and then browse for a specific subject area.  To help others gather more information we had to include a hyperlink.  We inserted a text box and typed in the website.  We also included a slide saying we abided by the fair use policy and copyright laws.  We included a bibliography slide so that others could find the information we used.  We had to change the format so that the presentation printed out six slides per page.  Afterwards, we clicked on “View Show” to watch the completed powerpoint presentation.  To present the presentation we used a wireless touch screen to activate the projector.  This piece of technology has many advantages.  For example, the presenter can walk freely around the classroom instead of having to stand in one specific area.  Each member of the group discussed a specific portion of the presentation.

IMPACT

The skills I learned from creating this will be very useful to me as a classroom teacher.  As a future licensed teacher, I will be giving many presentations.  I can use this powerpoint presentation at a PTO meeting to inform parents what their child will be learning in the upcoming school year.

ALIGNMENT

This artifact meets Technology Competency 11.2 because I used a computer and a Sony projector to present this presentation to the class.  I also used a digital camera to take a picture, in which I imported it into our powerpoint presentation.  Also, using the Power Point program to present information guarantees that the audience will remain to be fascinated and will gain a feeling of understanding of the topic presented.  Power Point is a visually pleasing and is easy to comprehend.

This artifact meets Technology Competency 11.4 .  In a cooperative learning group of four, we gathered information on the sixth grade curriculum and presented it to the class in a Power Point presentation.

This artifact meet Technology Competency 12.6 because I used a piece of wireless technology and a touch screen to activate the computer station and turn on the projectors.  In order to make sure that all persons could hear, I also used large, wall-mounted speakers to present our information.
