Software
Evaluation
Context:
During Block of fall 2002, I evaluated
a piece of software pertaining to math. The program was called Kid
Pix. In doing the evaluation I was able to see more closely into
the process of choosing software that is useful and beneficial to the students
and coincides with the N.C. Standard Course of Study.
Impact:
This software review helped me to understand
what aspects of a program should be considered when deciding which software
is appropriate for a class. I can now apply this information to other software
and be aware of the advantages they can offer inside the classroom.
Alignment:
The software evaluation assignment provided
me with an opportunity to research computer software available to teachers.
(Technology Competency IIB) This project
also enabled me to research other professional’s opinions regarding software
that can be used when teaching a specific subject area. Through this activity
I was able to see how software is available that can enhance the learning
environment as well as help students who may need extra help in a specific
area of the curriculum. Through this assignment I also evaluated a specific
piece of software that I will perhaps use in my future classroom. (Technology
Competency 2C) The paper that was written as a product for this
assignment provided me with an opportunity to share with others what I
believe to be benefits as well as downfalls to this specific piece of computer
software.
INTASC:
This project demonstrates the teacher's
ability to know about media communication in order to foster a classroom
that encourages interaction and collaboration. (INTASC
6) It also demonstrates the teacher's ability to know that media
is beneficial to his/her classroom and what types of software will engage
students in a meaningful learning experience.
