Media Ethnography

Context:
During Block 436 i was able to team up with three other interns at Crossnore in order to see the effects of media on students.  We created a powerpoint presentation to demonstrate our reasearch.

Impact:
This project allowed for me to see just how much media effects students thoughts about themselves and others.  My group chose second through forth grade in order to do this project with.  We decided on the topic of body image and how early children become concerned with how they look.  This opened my eyes to see that students see at a very early age that being "skinny" and "beautiful" in the eyes of society is very heavily weighted.

Alignment:
Through doing this research I have shown my understanding of concepts related to technology and I have demonstrated my desire for a continual growth of knowledge of the meaning of technology. (Technology Competency I A and B)  My classmates and I have used technology resources (digital camera, videos, TV, magazines) to collect and analyze data and interpret results.(Technology Competency IV B). We communicated our results with the help of a PowerPoint presentation to our classmates.(Technology Competency V D)  I learned a lot about the impact of media on students so I am able to help my students see a more healthy approach and use media with positive influences in my classroom.  (Technology Competency VI D) and model and teach ethical practice related to technology use ( Technology Competency VI A).

INTASC:
This project will allow me to provide learning opportunities that support a child's intellectual, social and personal development (INTASC 2).
