As part of my Math in the Elementary School Course at Appalachian State University, I researched about the most effective ways to set up a classroom.  Then I created a classroom map that was set up in a way that would promote student learning and involvement.

As a teacher, I will use this map as a guideline in setting up my classroom.  I will have learning centers set up around the room to facilitate all areas of the curriculum, including technology.  Also, the desks will be arranged so transition times and throughout the day students can easily find what they need.  Furthermore, this map will be useful to give to other teachers as a guide for thinking about their own classroom set up.

There is lots of research on how classroom set up affects student learning.  This map portrays a productive and organized classroom that would promote small group and individual work (12.4).  The room would have various learning stations including one specifically designated as a computer/technology center.  The stations will be placed in a convenient location to enable easy access for students (14.2).
