The software evaluation was produced for my Curriculum and
Instruction course during my senior year at Appalachian State University.
As part of the assignment I examined the software, "Kid's Media Magic"
and critiqued it to see how it could be used within the classroom.
The software I chose was specific to the information skills and language arts NC Standard Course of Study. This project is helpful to me as a teacher because I already have an extremely effective software to utilize in my classroom when teaching writing. I will also use the software to show colleagues an efficient and exciting way to teach writing to their students. "Kid's Media Magic" can be used to specialize in teaching
and giving practice to students in writing skills (11.3).
The software is developed in such a way that a variety of learning levels
can be challenged. Certain features, like sound, could be used to
help those students with special needs (13.2).
The program allows for students to write on any given topic and has various
features that encourage lower levels of students to put pictures in the
place of words to make writing fun, but also to keep them from becoming
discouraged about not being able to spell correctly. Those pictures,
by the click of a button, can be transformed into that particular word
of the picture. However, that feature can be eliminated or used in
a different way to stimulate and challenge on grade as well as above grade
level students (13.1).
