During my block experience at ASU, I completed an internship at Bethel
School. While there, I completed a project called Portrait of a Learner.
This project included the photographing and videotaping of a child.
In order to obtain legal permission for doing this, I sent out a permission
slip to the child's parents. This slip was for protection of the
child, and myself and to clearly outline their rights in this matter.
I will keep a template of this permission slip in my personal files to use in my own teaching, as I know this scenario will arise again. This slip can be sent out at the beginning of the year and I will keep one for each of my students on file stating that they have parental permission to be in photographs and video. The permission slip I created meets competency 14.1 because it shows that my classroom is compliant with child protection guidelines. The slip informs children and students of their rights in the matter and allows them to give or withhold permission as they see fit.
