Artifact 6

The artifact I have included to fulfill Competency 11.4 is a web page I created on media literacy. The page was made for a fourth or fifth grade classroom to teach students about a specific form of media, namely political cartoons. I accessed the political cartoons used of planning this lesson and the background information needed for my own learning via computer, therefore meeting competency 10.3. The web site contains a lesson plan that I used to teach students about understanding and analyzing political cartoons. By using this web site, my students will have access to cartoons posted on the site as well as political cartoon sites I have linked there. The cartoons and the site itself will then be available to them in the classroom for discussion with peers or myself. Because it is a web site, it will also be available for access to student-s at home for further exploration or discussion with parents and family members. This media literacy plan also meets competency 12.5 because the lesson plan found on the site requires students to collaborate as they learn about political cartoons. They will explore the implications of selected cartoons in groups, hearing each others’ interpretations and opinions. This lesson plan is posted on the site and therefore available for teacher use.
