Artifact: Story Pictures Assignment   is a web page created for both teachers and students to use computer skills, as well as creative writing.  The teachers web page is linked to the Fourth Grade Curriculum.

Context:  This was created during my Block at Appalachian.  I used Netscape Composer to create the web pages.  I used a digital camera to take the photographs used on the page.  The students are directed to sequence the pictures into a creative and logical order.  They are then to use a word processing document to create a story.  The teachers have their own pages with directions on how to give the assignment.

Impact:  This assignment is very useful because it can be so easily adapted to children at different levels.  Story Pictures can also be adapted to different grade levels.  This incorporates both Computer Skills and Language Arts objectives.  The assignment is both fun and educational.  Students are able to work on computers while creating a story in which they can be expressive.

Alignment: The story pictures page links to the NC Computer Skills Curriculum.  The lesson is set up to meet many of the standards.  (Tech 10.1)  This project is designated so that the students can meet the curriculum goals, while having fun.  (Tech 10.4)  Students will be working on the Internet, and perfecting their word processing skills by completing this assignment.  The kids will be producing their own documents which is practicing for the Computer Skills Assessment. (Tech 10.5)  One of the best aspects of this assignment is that parents and other teachers are able to see the work.  As the teacher, you can place all of the children's stories on the Web page.  This way parents can access their children's work on the Internet.  Many parents work on computers at work.  This would be a practical way to display their child's work. (Tech 12.3)  This assignment is based around computer skills and student expression.  The students are given the chance to write stories using technology. (Tech 12.7)
I will use this in my classroom to foster active inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interaction in the classroom. (INTASC #6)
