Artifact: Developmental
Study- is a survey and interview conducted to find out some interests
of students in Kindergarten and First grade. It is to better understand
and get to know the students.
Context: I created this Web page during my CI 4000 course in the Spring of 2001. I interviewed the students using a camcorder and television. The students had permission to be taped. The Web page was created on Netscape Composer. Impact: Effective teachers know a lot about their students. Children are growing up in a world filled with technology. It is hard to realize the effect of media on young children. This assignment made me more aware of what grabs the interest of young students. I was able to relate with my students after completing this Web page. It is on the Internet, so teachers and parents can easily access it. This will be used as a tool in years to come. Alignment: During my interview
process, I videotaped the children having an open discussion about the
television programs they like to watch. I was able to view the tape
to gather my data. (Tech 12.2)
The parents signed permission slips prior to the filming. (Tech
14.1) Even though I filmed the students for instructional purposes,
I am aware that I am not able to show this film to others for legal and
ethical purposes. (Tech 14.3) My
interviews were very informal. The students and I basically talked
about what they liked to watch on television and why. I was then
able to better evaluate their social and intellectual development.
(INTASC
# 8) By sending home permission slips to the parents I was developing
good contact between the parents and myself. Parents are so important
to the success of children. I feel that they should be an important
part of the learning environment.
