Artifact # 5 |
Artifact: Classroom
Management Artifact: Classroom Management- is a combination of routines,
environment and classroom design.
Context: This artifact was produced during my Curriculum and Instruction course at Appalachian State. I completed the assignment in February 2001. It was created using Microsoft Word. Impact: This assignment allowed me to observe a thirty-five year veteran teacher, Ms. Sharon Johnson, at Beech Mountain Elementary School. I was able to observe her routines and how the children reacted to them. I analyzed the classroom environment and adapted it to create my ideal classroom. I sketched a drawing of how I hope my classroom will look. My classroom will be child centered so that it will be a nurturing, positive environment for the students. Alignment: My classroom sketch
is organized in a way that enables children to work comfortably in groups.
This supports teamwork in the class. (Tech
12.4) One of my favorite aspects of my class design is the rug.
The rug will act as a designated meeting spot for the class, where we will
do many group activities. This will be a routine so that the children
are welcomed to share their feelings and ideas. (Tech.
12.5) I believe that children work well in stations. I
will have a variety of stations set up around my classroom. We will
have a computer station, hopefully with at least three computers.
This will allow all students equal time to work on the computers. (Tech.
14.2) I have realized that children learn very differently from
one another. My classroom will incorporate many different styles
of instruction. I will foster to the different learning styles of
my students. (INTASC #3)
I am a very positive person. I will act as a motivator for my students,
encouraging them to have a positive self-image, and become self motivated.
