Rationale for the Artifact: Power Point Presentation

Competency 11.2: Use media and technology to present the subject so that it is comprehensible to others.

Competency 11.4: Use technology to facilitate teaching strategies specific to the discipline.

Competency 12.6: Resources available including satellite, cable, wireless, and ITFS (Instructional Television Fixed Service)

Context

I began my Power Point presentation by launching Microsoft Power Point on my PC. I worked with a partner named Rachel, who shared responsibility with me in getting this project done. We made 8 slides all pertaining to nutrition and eating healthy. Throughout this project we were able to add animation to the pictures as well as the words. We provided sound to the graphics and gave it light by adding some color. When the project was complete, we copied the presentation into a folder in the program computer. We also used a device known as a touch screen. A touch screen is a remote control panel that has buttons for the VCR, computer, visual presenter (electronic overhead), and laptop. The advantage to this feature is you can walk around the classroom and not have to be right at the computer. Another beneficial teaching strategy is the teacher station. Each week, we control it or watch her control it. Either way, we are getting used to it. In the station are speakers mounted to the wall, which help with hearing difficulty. There is also a projector that projects to the large screen on the wall so that kids cannot mess with it. Lastly, the touch screen.

Impact

As a teacher I will use Power Point to 1) as an alternative way to teach my students so that all types of learners can succeed and 2) The children use Power Point to teach each other. I will also use wireless technology such as remotes, VCR's, touch screens, etc...

Alignment

The Power Point Presentation aligns with Technology Competency 11.2, I will use a variety of technologies in presenting curriculum information to students as well as design a multimedia project to present curriculum information.

The Power Point Presentation also aligns with Technology Competency 11.4. I will utilize computers in gathering, organizing, and presenting information through cooperative learning groups and use Internet resources to construct classroom simulations. Use media communication technologies in classroom presentations.

Lastly, the Power Point Presentation aligns with Technology Competency 12.6 in which I will utilize wireless technology in classroom presentations to make learning as effective as possible.
