Rationale
for the Artifact: Climate/Environment Assessment
Context I created this artifact during block my senior in my CI 4000 class. During my internship at Mabel Elementary, I observed the teacher and her classroom and took down notes about what particular things she did that I liked, and thought I would use as far as her classroom goes. I focused mainly on where things were set up and what kind of environment they created. My main focus was on where and how the desks were located, the carpet area, supplies counter and wall adornments. I tried to see if where and how these were located, provided a positive learning environment for the students. In accordance with writing a refection paper on what I observed, I also sketched a temporary drawing of how I might want to set my classroom up, if given the proper materials. Impact As a future teacher, it is important to observe other teachers and see how they set their classroom up for ideas. It is useful to acknowledge the variety in the classroom and whether or not it provides a positive learning environment. I liked a lot of what she had done and appreciated her ideas, but I will continue to look and see what else is out there, looking forward to student teaching. Alignment The Climate/Environment Assessment aligns with INTASC principe 8. This is a good project allowed for me to formally and informally assess her classroom and evaluate whether or not it provided continuous intellectual, social and physical development of the learner. Through observation, I was also able to evaluate the effects of class activities on individuals and on groups through class interaction, and behavior. |
