for the Artifact: Computer/Technology Skills Curriculum, document on the
Eighth Grade Computer Skills Test and a Brochure from NDCPI.
Competency 10.1: Use the computer skills curriculum to identify what students should be able to do. Competency 10.5: The N.C. Skills Assessment: Utililize available released items (knowledge and performance) as assessment for computer skills for my appropriate grade level/subject. Context My first artifact is a printout of the NC computer technology skills. This web page was produced on behalf of the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (www.ncdpi.orq). I clicked on "curriculum" and read and printed out the competencies. My second artifact is a document on the eighth grade computer technology skills. This was developed from the Internet at www.ncpublicschools.org. My last artifact to be used is a brochure from NCDPI on the computer/technology skills, Preparing Our Students to Live and Work in the 21St century. The Public Schools of North Carolina, the State Board of Education and the Department of Public Instruction produced this brochure. These artifacts will be used to ensure that I utilize everything I am given to work with and to meet all of the competency goals. Impact I am going to be licensed to teach grades K-6 in North Carolina, and I will incorporate these computer skills into my classroom. I am aware that there are six strands in computer skills for all public school students in NC. The six strands are: Keyboard Utilization, Word Processing, Desktop Publishing, Societal Issues, Databases, Spreadsheets, Multimedia Presentation and Telecommunications. I will have computers in my classroom for many reasons. For Accelerated Reader, games, my personal use, the Internet, etc ...l want the children to take advantage of what is offered and master, or try to master, the tasks laid in front of them. These computer skills will be good to have for the rest of their lives and their knowledge obtained while doing it will be just as helpful. My second artifact, Tests of Computer Skills, corresponds with the North Carolina State Board of Education and their computer proficiency requirement for graduation. This test will be required of all students with a certain passing grade in order to graduate. The Computer/Technology Skills Curriculum corresponds with the brochure from NCDPI and the six strands. It clearly states the use and utilization of a computer and the skills set forth to obtain. Alignment The Computer/Technology Skills Curriculum aligns with Technology Competency 10.1 in which it includes detailed competency goals that target what can be achieved if the skills are enforced. The learner will understand important issues of a technologically based society and will exhibit ethical behavior in the use of computers and other technologies. The learner will demonstrate knowledge and skills in the use of computer and other technologies. The Computer/Technology Skills Curriculum
aligns with Technology Competency 10.5.
The learner will use a variety of technologies to access, analyze, interpret,
synthesize, apply, and communicate information. Most importantly, if the
learner passes the computer skills test, graduation will not be a problem.
