I-Movie
Context:
I, along with a group of interns in my block created
this video during Fall Semester 2001 for our CI 3850 (Integrating Media
and Technology into Teaching) class. We used digital camcorders
to
tape the events and Macintosh iMovie to edit the clips for sound quality
and special effects.
Impact:
The experience of creating a class movie that depicts
ideas from a piece of literature meets many elementary North Carolina Technology
and Language Arts Curriculum Goals from the Standard Course of Study.
There are many skills involved in using the technologies such as working
a video camera and understanding iMovie. By ha
ving participated in
this activity, I have the knowledge it takes to perform it and will
be more willing to do so in my classroom since I am comfortable with the
task.
Alignment:
Students can clearly demonstrate, through this activity,
what they have learned from their selected reading, as well as gain an
understanding of the book that they may have missed by simply reading it.
Not only will students be improving their social skills
by working closely
with group members, but improving their critical thinking and creativity
skills as well (IIIC). It
is important that as educators we ensure that our students are continually
developing, and this activity is a excellent way to provide for this development.
By using this project, teachers can also use formal assessment (written
script and flow of project) as well as informal assessment (group participation
and time management) (INTASC # 8).
