Ethnography

Context:
This media artifact, entitled Ethnography, was created Fall of 2001, at Appalachian State University, in my CI 3750 class, through surveys, investigations, and research.  The interns at Mabel Elementary School, myself included, began a study of how media affects the lives of our students, even without their knowledge.  This artifact is the product we created to represent our findings.  We used digital cameras to take pictures, Netscape Composer, Photoshop, and scanners to add detail and accessibility to our product.

Impact:
After researching this topic, I became mor e aware of how media influences my life and my students' lives, without even knowing it.  By noticing the things that students hold in high regard, I feel I have a better understanding how to reach them on their level and how to comprehend the origin of many of their ideas.

Alignment:
We used technology such as internet research and email interviews to research and collect data.  We then analyzed this student data and formed a web page for parents, teachers, students, and the community to allow communication between myself and others to ensure support for the students well being and learning (INTASC # 10) (IVB).  This product allows me to see what is important to my students and maximize student learning.
