Literature Database  (Example)

Context:
This artifact was created in my Methods of Language Arts class, Fall 2001, at Appalachian State University.  I read adolescent novels and picture books in order to complete this assignment.  After reading the literature, I provided summary input and ratings into an online database that had already been constructed by our professors.

Impact:
This database w ill help me as a teacher to evaluate literature for my students before they are exposed to it.  There are so many wonderful books out there that due to lack of time, I would be unable to read.   With the help of my colleagues, however, we can reflect on the books for one another and communicate the best books to capture our students' interest and help them find the joys of reading like so many of us have already done.

Alignment:
By sharing reviews with other teachers, I save myself time and can do other things which will make me much more productive (VC).  Without online sources like this database and online lesson plans, teachers would spend so much more time on getting the basic ideas together (such as picking out the book) instead of building a creative lesson that interests the students (preparing a literature circle or book activity).
