Artifact #13:
Designing An Accessible Computer Lab

Context

This list of features would create a computer lab that all will enjoy.  It features modern equipment that is easily accessed by all computer users.  The atmosphere would be comfortable so that all users would benefit from going to the lab.  With technicians on hand, anyone who is unfamiliar with computers can become knowledgeable by visiting the lab and getting assistance from these personnel.  There are many interesting things that can be found on computers and having an accessible computer lab will only help more people discover them.

Impact

Designing a computer lab that is accessible to all students will benefit everyone by allowing all people to use the lab comfortably and learn about the technological processes of computers.  They will also grow to be more familiar with them and gain skills in computer literacy.  Being confident when using computers is very important because computers are becoming more and more necessary in our everyday lives and we need to know how to use them properly.

Alignment

This list meets Competency 12.4 because it describes the physical settings that support active student involvement in computer labs.  It defines the way a lab should be laid out to comply with all students, including those with disabilities.  This assignment also meets INTASC Principle #5 because the teacher uses his/her understanding of group motivation to create a positive learning environment.  Designing an accessible computer lab accomodates all learners and provides the most productive learning envirionment.
