Context

For this assignment, we chose a book, or series of books to include in a Literature Circle Unit.  A Lit. Circle is a series of activities involved with reading the book.  While reading the book, we selected activities such as Character Sketcher, Word Wizard, Discussion Director, and Connector that students would perform while they read the book.  Then we posted our units on the Internet.  These are useful for teachers to guide a lesson about the book.

Impact:

As a teacher, Literature Circles are a good way to divide the class into different groups based on reading level, while covering all of the requirements for the grade.  These units are accessible over the Internet with examples and ideas for presenting the information.

Alignment:

This assignment meets NC Standard Course of Study Competency 13.1 because the teacher is accounting for the different learning styles and levels of all students.  By using the Internet to post the Lit. Circles, all students reading levels are addressed and they can access their particular Lit. Circle Unit.  This assignment also meets INTASC Goal #3 because the teachers realizes and addresses children's different learning styles and creates lessons appropriate to each reading level.  It also meets INTASC Goal #8 because Lit. Circles ensure a child's continuous intellectual development.
