During my coursework at Appalachian State University, I found this
artifact and thought it would be extremely useful in incorporating technology
into my instruction. The artifact is a web site found at http://school.discovery.com.
This is Discovery Channel’s website. It includes an enormous amount
of information on almost any topic.
There is a wide variety of lesson plans that can be used in planning instruction. These plans are to be used for science instruction and have videos created by Discovery Channel that correspond to the lesson plans. The website covers all areas of science. Therefore, it is useful in meeting my curriculum goals no matter what grade I plan to teach. For this specific artifact, I have chosen a lesson plan on butterflies and bees. It is directed at students in grades four through six but has adaptations for younger students. It is a thorough lesson that includes a worksheet and numerous activities. This lesson plan and video uses the school’s television resources to
support the science curriculum (10.2).
It facilitates student learning utilizing educational television
(12.6).
It is enhanced by using a copy of The Learning Channel Elementary School
documentary Butterflies
and Bees. The video has been created to reinforce the subject
matter to visual learners (13.4).
