Media Literacy
Lesson
For a Technology methods course that I took, I had to create a lesson on
Media Literacy. This lesson was to show how to teach children to
evaluate media. I had to put my lesson plan on a web page to learn
how to create a web page. This web page can be used to give other
teachers ideas on how to teach students to evaluate the media.
Doing this lesson plan helped me understand how to get students to analyze
advertising. I can use this understanding when I teach my students.
Creating a web page helped me learn how to take my ideas and share them
with others. I will also be able to work with web pages for my class,
organizations that I may be part of, or for sharing lesson plans.
The web page that I created meets competency 11.2
because I designed a multimedia project that presents curriculum information.
Using a multimedia project is useful because it allows students to be exposed
to and to use more than one type of technology. The lesson
plan meets competency goal 12.1 because in
the lesson plan students analyze the advertisements. They then create
and explain their own advertisements. Goal 12.5
is met because this lesson is a management strategy that supports active
student involvement, inquiry, and collaboration. In the activity,
the students work together in groups to create their product and then to
advertise the other group's product. This lesson plan also
meets competency goal 12.7 because it creates
a learning experience that relates to curriculum goals. Goal
14.3
is also met because on the web page I cited the sources that I used to
make the lesson and create the page. I included a link back to the
page that I got my background from. I posted advertisements from
Crayola magazine so I made a link to the Crayola web site.
