Portrait of a Learner Project

For my classes in my Block experience at Appalachian State University I was required to do a project titled “Portrait of a Learner”.  For this project, I had to do assessments and a video on one specific child to see how this particular child learns.  I followed “Jessie” around with the video camera to get a sense of one day in his school life.  Before I was allowed to film my project student I had to obtain parent permission to make copies of his work and record him on video.  After the video was completed, I showed the video to “Jessie’s” parents.
This video and permission slip showed me how to study one child and understand how that child learns.  I learned how important it is to get permission when doing any video recording with a child.  I can use this video to compare to students in my classroom.  This video will help me be better prepared to evaluate my students in my own classroom.
This video meet competency goal 12.2 because I collected information on my portrait student and how he learns using technology.  Goal 12.3 is also met because I used the video to show to the student’s parents to help them see what a day of school is like for their child.  The permission slip meets competency goal 14.1 because I ensured compliance with security and child protection laws.
