For my Social Studies in the Elementary School course I developed a lesson with two of my peers based on the book The Courage of Sarah Noble. This lesson would be used during study on historical fiction. The students would be required to read the book and then write a point of view paper about one of the characters. The students would be required to create, save and print this paper as a word-processed document. This lesson plan meets the N.C. Standard Course of Study for language arts, social studies and computer skills. Social studies objectives are met because the students will be distinguishing similarities and differences among children from different times. The language arts and computer skills objectives are met because the students will be writing a paper using a word processing system. This lesson plan will allow students to practice typing,
saving and printing a word processed document (10.1).
It was also designed to integrate the computer skills curriculum with that
of language arts and social studies (10.4).
This lesson can be used to assess the students’ abilities to type, save
and print a document (10.5).
