For my Curriculum and Instruction course I participated in a group that
did research on ESL students and multiculturalism in the classroom.
The purpose of this inquiry project was to collect information on these
students and provide a resource file for teachers who may have questions
regarding this topic. The information consists of interviews, web
sites (ex. NCDPI), lesson plans and literature on the topics of ESL students
and multiculturalism in the classroom. There was also A computer
created brochure was also included in the packet.
This information would be beneficial to teachers who are working to effectively incorporate ESL students and multiculturalism into their classrooms. I plan to use this information, including the NCDPI web site, to help create an environment that is both beneficial and comforting to any foreign students who may enter my classroom. I will also use these resources to nurture the idea of multiculturalism in my classroom. Some of the literature included in the information is bilingual to benefit those who do not speak English as their native language (13.3). The teacher resources include a web site from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (13.4).
