During my internship at Beech Mountain Elementary School I produced a Portrait of a Learner video. The video is about a particular student I followed throughout the semester and it shows her in a variety of academic settings. During this project I was able to assess my student in math, reading and spelling. Working one-on-one with a student gave me great insight on how students learn, how to conduct assessments, and the different strategies I can use to nurture the learning process. The video allowed me to track the academic progress of my student. At the same time I was able to see how my student reacted to her surroundings, both in the classroom and out. This video could be beneficial to other teachers who may be involved with this student in the future by giving them an idea of her learning style and techniques. This would allow them to modify and adapt strategies in working with this student. This video could also be viewed by parents so they can become familiar with the learning style of their child. This video includes a collection of information that gives
me an idea about how my portrait student learns (12.2).
It also allows me to effectively communicate information about this student’s
learning to her parents and future teachers (12.3).
