Artifact Thirteen: This artifact is a list of resources available via the Internet. The resources listed are state and national web pages that provide help for teachers, parents and students.

Context
I developed this list in a technology class my senior year at ASU. I searched for state and national resources for teachers using Yahoo! I explored the sites and evaluated their effectiveness. I subscribed to the list serve by emailing a message to lyris@list.nea.org.

Impact
I will use these resources in my classroom to find information and to get help in areas that I am not an expert in. The ERIC website has a wide variety of resources available for educators and is a site that all NC teachers should be familiar with. I joined a list serve with NEA’s Works4Me. This program sends me a weekly email with effective strategies and tips for use in the elementary classroom. Pat’s Carolina Connection is a site that helps people learn about and access assistive technologies (technology that assists a disabled person in getting through their day). LD Online is a great source for LD students, parents of teachers.

Alignment
In my classroom, I will most likely come across the need for resources that can assist me in reaching my diverse learners. I am aware of and know how to make use of, resources that are available from the State of North Carolina. There are also national services, like the ones offered by NEA (NC Technology Competency 13.4). Many students are labeled as having some Learning Disability. It is important that I am prepared to meet the needs of these students. LD Online is a great resource for issues concerning LD students. I believe I will make great use of this website during my teaching career (NC Technology Competency 13.2). Through utilizing available resources to assist me in reaching more of my students, I am actively making choices that will benefit my students. Gaining new teaching strategies and skills that will benefit my class is one step towards professional growth. Some of the listed sites have the option of corresponding with other professionals. This is very useful in some instances, such as when there is some problem in the classroom, and all obvious options for dealing with the problem have been exhausted. This can be an opportunity to find out what strategies others may be using, and how to vary my own strategies to better meet the needs of the class. It also provides the chance to share some strategies that I have found to be very effective for particular problems (INTASC Principle 9).
