Artifact Four: This artifact is an evaluation
of the software, Math Rock, published by School House Rock and Creative
Wonders.
Context
I created this artifact for an assignment in my Math methods
class during my Elementary Block at ASU. I selected a piece of software,
interacted with and explored all areas of the CD-Rom, and wrote a review
for this piece of software using Microsoft Word.
Impact
The skills used to create this artifact will be valuable to me
as an educator. I can assess the effectiveness of a program, or I can read
a review and understand the explanations. This will guarantee that any
computer software I use in my class will be aligned with my curriculum
and will enable my students to learn from the technology. The software
I evaluated was a Math program designed for students grade three or higher.
This program includes activities that involve graphing, logic, equations,
estimation, geometry, etc. This program would be very useful for students
in grades three to five.
Alignment
After completing this assignment, I have the skills needed to
evaluate and select effective software programs for my students (NC
Technology Competency 10.6). This particular software targets math
concepts for students in grades three to five (NC
Technology competency 11.3). One great way to get students excited
about Math is to use games in the classroom. This software allows for the
use of games while incorporating technology into the classroom (NC
Technology Competency 11.4). This Math program is easily accessible
for all students who are working with these concepts. There are various
difficulty levels at each of the games. Students can practice the skills
they need improvement in for as long as they wish. Visual and auditory
learners can be reached through the brightly colored graphics and entertaining
songs and sounds (INTASC Principle 3).
