Artifact Six: This artifact is a unit plan on Oceans incorporating the use of technology.

Context
I created this unit in a technology class during my senior year at ASU. I read through the Standard Course of study and selected a topic that could be aligned with the use of available software. The sea interests me, plus there was a CD that allows students to explore the ocean. Then I navigated the software and determined ways that the CD could be used in the lessons.

Impact
This unit is for use in a Third grade science class. One lesson incorporates the use of The Magic School Bus Explores the Ocean, a piece of interactive software that is accessible to all types and levels of learners. Students can easily navigate this software, and find the information they need to complete the assignment. This software is versatile enough for even the lowest level student in the class.

Alignment
Several of the lessons in this unit involve the skill of gathering information from the CD, and then using that research to complete part of an assignment (NC Technology Competency 12.1). Many students will benefit from the selection of software that can be easily used by many levels of students. Various types of learners will also benefit from this unit. The Magic School Bus CD is very appealing to children; it has bright, colorful graphics, great characters, and interesting sounds from the ocean (NC Technology Competency 13.1). This unit plan was developed by selecting a topic from the Curriculum Goals that I was interested in, and children are as well (INTASC Principle 7). Then I incorporated the use of technology into the science unit
