Artifact Two: List of television resources available on the World Wide Web and suitable for the Elementary school teacher.

Context
I created this list, using Microsoft Word, during a technology class my senior year at ASU. I searched the Internet for television resources that I could use in my classroom. I chose sites that contain information needed to ensure the effective usage of television in a school setting.

Impact
These resources include a variety of information such as: program listings, video databases, lesson plans incorporating television, links to other sources, and tips for teachers. For example, at The History Channel’s site there is a list of programs that can be taped for use in the classroom. These programs can then be incorporated easily into a Social Studies lesson.

Alignment
This artifact implements the use of media to enrich student learning. Many of these sources could be used for lessons, or for student research. By completing an activity like the one just described, students would meet NC Computer Skills Competency Goal 3 (NC Technology Competency 10.2). It is important to realize that there are resources available to educators from television services (NC Technology Competency 12.6). Children like television, why should we not use effective television sources for activities in our classrooms? If television can be used in an informative manner, and it enhances the subject matter, it can be easily incorporated into many curriculum areas.
