Artifact Five:  This artifact is a Power Point presentation entitled “Steps to Becoming Involved in Your Child’s Education”. This presentation was created to learn how to use the Power Point program, and to share with other prospective teachers the advantages of parent involvement in schools. The presentation was designed in a way that could communicate this information to parents or to teachers.

Context
I created this artifact as part of a group assignment in a technology class during my senior year at ASU. I used Microsoft Power Point to build this presentation. I inserted pictures and clip art from the World Wide Web, and from a digital camera. There were many key points to our argument for parental involvement, so a visual demonstration was useful to present the points in an organized and pleasing manner.

Impact
The skills I learned during the creation of this presentation will be very useful to me as a classroom teacher. Power Point presentations are interesting, and it is exciting to teach in a new manner. This particular presentation is on a topic that is important for all perspective teachers and parents to be familiar with. With so much information to present, it was important that our audience did not become overwhelmed or confused. Simple colors and interesting graphics were used to keep the audience’s attention. The large and clear print is easily comprehended. Displaying the show on a large screen is also a good step towards reaching a variety of learners, whether adults or students.

Alignment
Using the Power Point program to present information ensures that the audience will remain intrigued and will gain a feeling of understanding of the topic at hand. Power Point is a visually pleasing and comprehendible format for conveying ideas (NC Technology Competency 11.2).
