Classroom Layout:  a plan for effectively arranging a classroom to promote learning

Context

This layout was completed in my Elementary School Curriculum and Instruction class during my pre-service training at Appalachian State University.

Impact

This classroom design provides a blueprint for constructive use of classroom space, as well as taking into account the student's needs for a productive, accessible, and comfortable learning environment.

Alignment

This classroom design promotes student collaboration on projects and learning in general, by arranging the desks in small groups.  Classroom resources are easily accessible in order to promote active student involvement and make the most of class time.  Areas for whole-class learning are established and support student involvement and inquiry.  With this set-up, students will be encouraged to explore in groups and enhance each other's learning experience (Tech Comp 12.4).
