Artifact # 2 |
Artifact: Creative
Writing Activity: an on line activity for third thru fifth graders
to practice composing stories using pictures. It involves taking digital
pictures off a web page and creating a word document.
Context: This creative writing activity was composed in my Integrating Media and Technology class during my block at Appalachian State University. Impact: This lesson corresponds to the NC Standard Course of
Study for both language arts and technology competencies. As a web page,
this activity will be available to other teachers. Students are to create
a story using the pictures and follow any special directions that are given.
This lesson serves as an assessment tool, to see if the students can copy
and paste items into a word document. The purposes and audience of this
experience are discussed in the lesson.
Alignment: This web page includes instructions, pictures, and
a note to the teacher showing which standards this activity meets.
Since links to the appropriate computer skills curriculum are included
on the web page, this artifact fits (Tech.
Comp.10.1) of the advanced technology competencies. This will allow
other professionals to make connections in their own classroom. This lesson
plan is designed to correlate computer skills with the language arts curriculum
objectives (Tech Comp.10.4). It allows
students to use their creative writing skills and practice sequencing using
other resources besides paper and pencil. This activity shows that as a
teacher I understand that using a variety of instructional strategies will
help my students perform and excel in different areas. Students will have
to use critical thinking skills to sequence the story pictures in an order
that can make sense. ( INTASC # 4)
This activity involves students working in cooperative groups to present
information that they have put together. (Tech
Comp.11.4) This lesson also serves as an assessment tool for the computer
skills that students must learn during the school year. (Tech
Comp.10.5) Teachers will be able to observe if the students are able
to accomplish skills such as coping and pasting the pictures into a word
document, saving, and printing the document.
