Artifact: Media
Influences Video (clip): a look at how the media influences children
in the first grade
Context: I made this video with three other people during my block at Appalachian State University in the fall of 2000 Impact: This video is a source of information for parents, teachers, and children. It takes a look at how television, movies, radio, and video games affects a child’s image of violence. Children in the first grade were interviewed at three local elementary schools in Watauga County in the fall of 2000. The children were asked questions related to the types of music they listen too, video games they play, and cartoons they watch. The footage was then edited to compile one video on the perspective of violence by a first grader. Alignment: To make this video I had to use technology to collect
information about what students are learning from the media. I had to use
a video recorder to interview the children about the media they watch,
read and listen too. After collecting the data I had to edit the footage
to make one video. I also had to gather other information from movies and
CDs, so that all the information could be complied onto one videotape for
the final outcome. This video then provided information about what children
are learning form the media. (Tech Comp. 12.2)
