Artifact 10: Software
Evaluation
Context:
This artifact was created as a part of my CI 4000: Curriculum
and Instruction class at Appalachian State University.
Impact:
For this evaluation I chose to evaluate Math Blaster Mystery – Pre-Algebra,
the Great Brain Robbery. I would use this program in a 5th grade
setting. By using this program the students can work on their word
problems and logical-thinking skills. If I were to use this program
in my classroom I would train at least two students and then name them
the experts of the game. Then they would split up and teach another
pair and it would continue in this fashion until everyone could play the
game on their own. By working individually or in pairs the students
can begin making up strategies to help them in similar situations as the
one that they are having problems with.
Alignment:
The incorporation of this program allows the students an alternative
way of completing and gaining a better understanding of problem solving
and pre-algebraic equations (INTASC #4).
This resource is specific to the standard course of study for the fifth
grade (Tech Comp 11.3). Using computer
programs such as this one can be used to meet individual learning styles
and enhance the understanding of the curriculum. For example, a student
who needs more practice because they cant not comprehend the lesson can
get extra practice by completing this software program (Tech
Comp 13.1). This evaluation can help teachers already in the
classroom get a better understanding of this program and help them determine
if they would like to add it to their list of URL that they use in the
classroom (Tech Comp 10.3).
