Artifact 4:  ABC Booklet

Context:
This book was created in Social Studies in the Elementary Schools, at Appalachian State University, to relate a specific theme with the letters of the alphabet.  This ABC book was designed for the fourth grade classroom, focusing on North Carolina History.  Each page of the book presents a letter of the alphabet with a picture that corresponds to something relating to North Carolina History.  Students would be asked to create a book that illustrates North Carolina using the book I made as a model.  By completing this ABC Booklet on North Carolina History, the fourth grade students will gain a better understanding of their state and start to develop statehood.

Impact:
The ABC book is a good method to help the younger students with their letters and helps them to learn about their state.  This book illustrates different aspects of the Social Studies curriculum in the fourth grade, such as: State Symbols, North Carolina Government, North Carolina’s Landscape, etc.  Students will have a tangible item that reflects what they are learning.

Alignment:
Students will be using media and technology to create these books.  The ABC book can be created by using photographs, drawings, computer programs, and pictures from magazines.   The students will use various media and technology resources to produce their ABC books (Tech Comp 12.7).
