Artifact 6:  Eyes on North Carolina

Context:
This lesson plan was created for a 4th grade classroom during my CI 3850: Literary Technology and Instruction class at Appalachian State University.  The students would be working in groups of 3-4.  This is an online lesson plan that would be completed in the classroom for students to gather a better understanding of North Carolina and its landmarks.  The ending product would be placed in the students North Carolina scrapbooks.

Impact:
The history of North Carolina is one of the main focus points for fourth graders and it is very important for each student to be familiar with North Carolina’s landmarks.  For this assignment the students will be researching some of North Carolina’s historical sites and organizing their information so that they many report back to the entire class their findings.  Each group should be able to explain why their historical site is important.  Once again, the final (hard) copy will be an attachment in their North Carolina scrapbook.  Students may use any source of media in which t research their topic – Internet, dictionaries, newspapers, encyclopedias, textbooks, etc.  When each group has finished researching their site they will type up a hard copy and print out copies for each member of their group.  Once that is done they will report their findings to the classroom and then place their historical site in its correct location on a bulletin board map of North Carolina.

Alignment:
At the completion of this classroom assignment, the student will have used technology to learn more about North Carolina historical sites (Tech Comp 11.1).  They will use technology to present their findings by making a presentation on the overhead (Tech Comp 11.2).
