Artifact 12:  Classroom Map

Context:
While attending Appalachian State University, I began to think about the different ways that I would like to have my classroom set up.

Impact:
I realize that my classroom will reflect how I will teach in my class.  I began looking at how classrooms were arranged and their purpose.  In creating my classroom layout, I have pondered what materials I will need in my class.  I want to work with the early grade levels, so I know that centers, groups, and individual spaces are necessary.  As a future teacher, I must think of the different issues that will arise in my class and I will need to be able to use the space I am provided with efficiently.

Alignment:
In a classroom setting, I must provide equal opportunities for all the children to learn.  For example, if the student wants a quieter atmosphere to read or work in they can go to the library section of the room.  If a student cannot perform well at their desk, they have the option of working in the relaxation section of the room (INTASC #5).  I plan on having numerous centers for the students to rotate in and out of, one center being computers (Tech Comp. 12.4).  This center allows for students to use technology and provides an ample opportunity to work as partners in completing projects.
