Artifact # 2 |
Name: Literature
Database: an electronic collection of summaries and educational ideas
for children's literature.
Context: This database was created in my RE 3142 class, a class focused on literature and how it can be used and studied in the classroom. Impact: The Literature Database can be used by teachers when considering the use of literature in the classroom. By studying the content of the database, a teacher would be able to decide whether or not a specific piece of literature is appropriate for a specific lesson. A teacher can also acquire ideas for use of specific pieces of literature in the classroom when a lesson is desired for a specific book. Basically, a teacher can match a book to a lesson using the database, or a teacher can match a lesson to a book. Also, if a similar system was arranged in a classroom where students can add records to a literary database based on the literature they have read, then it would meet standard 2.7 in the North Carolina Standard Course of Study 5th Grade Computer/Technology Skills Curriculum. Alignment: The electronic Literature Database can be used as a tool for evaluating books as a source of technology while supporting student learning because of the access to reflections and instructional ideas using literature. The database is a way to apply technology in assessing student learning of subject matter (Tech Comp IVA). The Literature Database is a way to continually evaluate and reflect on professional practice to make informed decisions regarding the use of technology in support of students learning (Tech Comp VB). It is also a tool for applying technology to increase productivity (Tech Comp VC). The database provides teachers with evaluations of different pieces of literature that can be incorporated into the curriculum (INTASC 1). |
