Context:
This artifact was constructed at Appalachian State University in CI 3750 (Integrating Media and Technology into Teaching) in the computer lab. This is a product that can be used as a resource for other teachers.  I chose an object from an assemblage of objects and decided on its purpose.  Through Netscape Communicator, I made a web page serving as a newspaper article advertising the product and its usefulness.  On my web page, I made links to different pages: a teacher page, a student page, and an example page.  The teacher page included instructions for teachers and the Standard Course of Study goals and competencies which the project meets.  On the student page, students were given instructions on how to perform this task step-by-step.  An example for students and teachers to look at for guidance is placed on the example page.  I used Adobe Photoshop to edit the pictures that were placed on the pages.

Impact:
This web site serves as a great resource for teachers providing an activity which could used in the classroom to spark creative ideas. If teachers decide to use this web page, there are explicit instructions included on the page as well as easy access for themselves and their students.  Students are able to demonstrate their abilities to develop web pages and use many programs aligned with technology.  The activity aligns with many goals and objectives of the Standard Course of Study (which are listed on the web site for teacher convenience), so it is a good activity for students and teachers.  Because of my ability to work with web pages, I will feel more comfortable using them more often.  Therefore, web pages will be a means of communication with my students, parents, and colleagues.

Alignment:
This artifact aligns with competency IIIA because it enables me to use technological instructions and exercises to facilitate learning.  Because I developed this activity myself, I am comfortable leading this exercise with my students.  This activity meets many Standard Course of Study goals in Language Arts, Information Skills, and Computer Skills competencies.  Also in alignment with this artifact standard IIIC, which deals with critical thinking and creative work.  Students begin by using their creativity and critical thinking skills to assign their object a use.  Creativity is used when developing their web pages and the appearance of it.  Such high level technology skills require the use of  higher order thinking skills.  By including a page in this artifact for students to go to for instructions and guidance, standard IIID is also met.  This web page is a great means of communication between myself and my peers along with students.  It sets a precedent for communication between myself and many groups of people.  Because I am comfortable using this media, I will use it often in my career.  For these reasons, this artifacts also aligns with standard VD.  Also in alignment with this artifact is competency IVC.  As the students make their web page, they are required to use many types of technology.  From their final product and the process they go through to get to it, I can assess whether or not they can appropriately use the technology resources.
