Artifact 6:  Cognitive Inquiry Project

Context:
This artifact was created as part of my requirements for CI 4000 in my Block experience at Appalachian State University in Fall 2001.  I was grouped with four other people and given the assignment to research children with special needs in the cognitive domain.  We used the internet, books, videotapes, and other resources to complete this task.  We interviewed teachers and acquired exercises to differentiate instruction in a classroom.  Then we used Microsoft PowerPoint to collaborate our information.  We presented to our class with a variety of media including PowerPoint, video, discussion, handouts, and a picture book.

Impact:
As a classroom teacher, I will be faced with the difficult task of differentiating instruction for all levels of students that are in our classrooms.  By including resources for modifications and accommodations, I will be able to help my students increase their critical thinking and performance skills on all different levels.  With the games and strategies included in the packet, teachers can work to foster active inquiry, collaboration, and positive interaction in the classroom.

Alignment:
This artifact aligns with INTASC 4 in that I used a variety of strategies to help the learning of my peers which will also help our students in the future.  The materials included in the product encourage students on all different levels to increase their critical thinking skills and "think outside the box".  INTASC 6 is also met by this artifact.  As a group, we used many techniques to help encourage inquiry and interaction within the classroom.
