Artifact 10:  Software Evaluation

Context:

I evaluated a software program called Pre Algebra Math Blastery Mystery that was on a computer CD that I was able to access through a computer in the technology lab at Appalachian State University.  After viewing software and playing the games on the CD, I took time to reflect on the experience and write about the positive and negative points to the program.

Impact:

Teachers are always having to evaluate different software programs and use their own judgments as to whether or not they will implement those programs into their classrooms.

Alignment:

By doing the software evaluation, I demonstrate my desire to make sure that the material that I plan to use in my future classroom will be relevant and have qualities that ensure student learning.  After viewing my particular software, I answered a series of questions that helped me to evaluate the usefulness of the software.  By researching the product before using it in the classroom, teachers can make sure that their planning for the learning experience is adequate and useful to their students (Tech. Comp. II.B).  By evaluating the software that I use in my classroom, I am demonstrating a reflective process on my choices for my students.  I am actively seeking ways to improve and be completely sure that my resources and materials are up-to-date and appropriate for my classroom (INTASC Standard 9).
