Artifact 4: “Art Start” Power Point Presentation

Context:

The Art Start Power Point Presentation was created and presented in the course CI3850 entitled Literacy, Technology, and Instruction by four group members, including myself.  The purpose of this presentation was to educate peers and other professionals as to how including art in one's teaching curriculum can increase a student's academic performance and all around creativity.  The presentation was created by using Microsoft Power Point, and involved the scanning of various pictures using an EPSON 1200 Scanner.  It also included images taken from the Internet and transferred onto the power point program.

Impact:

As professionals, teachers have a duty and it is part of our job to be a continual and life-long learner.  By having Power Point presentations and other technology enhanced presentations, teachers can be sure that they are learning the very newest trends and disciplines in the world of education.  Being sure that we keep up with the growing technology in the world we live in is a must since we are required to teach students who are involved in it day in and day out.

Alignment:

This presentation is one that would be shown to fellow teachers to explain why art is such a valuable way for students to express themselves.  It also talks about the relationship between students that participate in regular art classes and the continual rise of test scores.  There is strong evidence to assume that students that do get a chance to do artistic things in their classrooms, will have higher test scores on the average.  This presentation is done by using Microsoft Power Point so that pictures could easily be scanned and displayed.  The whole presentation was created to better communicate with other teachers  (Tech. Comp. V.D.).  If desired, I could always also show this presentation not only to other teachers, but also to parents or other members of the community who would be interested in that subject matter (INTASC Standard 10).
