Artifact Ten:  List of Television Resources

Competency 10.2: “Use school television resources that support the curriculum.”

Context:

The first thing that we did in class was watch a Channel One news program.  This is available at www.teachworld.com.  This program meets the technology skill for Competency Goal 3.  The Competency for Goal 3 is, “The learner will use a variety of technologies to access, analyze, interpret, synthesize, apply, and communicate information.”  The next thing that I did in class was search on the Internet for television resources that I could use in my classroom.  Here are the five that I chose to be the most informative:
1. Channel One
2. Discovery Channel
3. PBS
4. Nickelodeon
5. The Biography Channel

I wrote a few sentences about each and I used footnotes to site the source.

Impact:

As a future North Carolina teacher I will be using television resources in my classroom.  Now I have more knowledge of a variety of resources to incorporate into the curriculum.  Hopefully, students will be more interested in learning when its on the television so they can acquire knowledge and love learning at the same time.

Alignment:

Because I have found different television resources and have more knowledge about them I have met Competency 10.2.  I also know how to access and apply a program like Channel One in my classroom.  Also, using television resources like Nickelodeon and PBS I can abide by the curriculum while my students are gaining knowledge from something that they like to do best; watch TV.
