References

Artifact One: North Carolina Computer Competencies

Competency 10.1: “Use the computer skills Curriculum to identify what students should be able to do.”

Competency 10.4: “The N.C. Skills Assessment:  Utilize available released items (knowledge and performance) as assessment for computer skills for your appropriate grade level/subject”

Context

The artifact is a printout of the NC computer technology skills test.  I got this artifact from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. (www.dpi.state.nc.us)  I clicked on curriculum and read and printed out the competencies.

The second artifact is a document about the 8th Grade Computer Technology Skills test.  I got this off the internet from www.ncpublicschools.org.

Impact

I am going to be licensed to teach grades K-6 in North Carolina and I will incorporate these computer skills into my classroom.  I am now aware that there are 6 strands in computer skills for all public school students in NC.  The strands are: SI = Societal Issues; KU/WP/DTP = Keyboard Utilization/ Word-processing/ Desk Top Publishing; DB = Database; SS = Spreadsheet; T = Telecommunications; MP = Multimedia/ Presentation.

Alignment

The printout of the NC Computer Skills aligns with Competency 10.1-as a future NC public school teacher, I now know and will incorporate these computer skills into my lesson plans.

The printout on the 8th grade testing aligns with 10.5.  We had a discussion about the assessment that all 8th graders have to pass in class today, and I have a document explaining it.
