Literature Circles Project

 Title:  Literature Circles

Context: The Literature Circles project was created at Appalachian State University in Beth Frye’s reading class during the fall of 2002. I did my unit on William Steig. I planned for 9 sections for the class to work on.  I read several of his books to plan the jobs for each section.

Impact: This unit is designed for a 3rd grade class. This activity shows how I will be able to differentiate my instruction to accommodate different reading levels. By creating this unit, I hoped to design something that will be helpful for the teacher to use and challenging for the students.

Alignment: This activity meets standard II A because I have designed developmentally appropriate learning activities for the children in my class. This also aligns with INTASC principal 1 because this shows how I can create meaningful learning experiences for each child. This aligns with principal 3 because it shows how I can create different instructional opportunities for diverse learners. It also aligns with principal 4 because it shows how a variety of instructional strategies can be used (ex. different jobs for the lit. circles) to encourage success in each child.
